so THAT's where it is- thanks! now can you tell me where the host name is defined? on a mac i think it's the filesharing control panel, but where do you find it on a wintel box?

Status (CurrentMultiUserStatus)

Returns 0 for a single user file, 1 for a multiuser file on the host computer, or 2 for a multiuser file on a guest computer.
