robinpow Posted March 20, 2002 Posted March 20, 2002 I'm a Mac person, however for hosting I had to go Linux. The learning curve is a killer! Have a nice little DB working on my Mac, however need to go online with it. I assume FM will be getting a few more dollars for the server version. How hard is it to intall and use on the Linux?
MpWiedemann Posted March 20, 2002 Posted March 20, 2002 The only version of FMP available for Linux is FMP SERVER. It won't host your database(s) for the web, only to other FMP clients. You need to run FMP Unlimited for the web and it will only run on Windows or Mac. Good Luck, Martin
nonzerocomm Posted March 20, 2002 Posted March 20, 2002 To the question: "How hard is it to intall and use on the (with) Linux?", I'd say it's a job for a linux programmer and administrator. Linux is at least as complex as FileMaker itself for one thing and that is why there are forums like this one for FMP, others for Linux. You can get Linux going fast but making it secure and customized is a tedious job. For any software, hardware, project or even employees, in any case, you can *only choose two of the following three* most desired qualities Good, fast an inexpensive. Fran
