Text carrige returns and format?

If I put a letter in a text field in filemaker that look like this:

3/12/2002

Dear Susan,

Here is a short note to you for...

And then on a web page I include a CDML to that particular field in FileMaker, the text on the web page looks like:

3/12/2002 Dear Susan, Here is a short note to you for...

Is there a way around this?
