Argh, is there nobody out there that can help? I am trying to create hyperlinks between a fm6 field and pdf's. In as simple english as i can put it (i hope) here's the problem:

I have a single text field which needs to contain multiple links out to pdf's

These pdf's will not be the same for every record so i can define a button in the layout.

i'll have users on both pc and mac so can't use OLE as i understand it.

I think i need to do this using the open url script step but can someone send me an example of what it ought to look like?

PLEASE help and explain in as simple terms as possible, i'm new to fma and don't understand most of the jargon.

Many thanks

If the PDF's are stored on a web server, you can use open URL, and specify a field in the record as the URL. The URL would be the address to the PDF. Depending on how your browser is configured, the PDF may be viewed in the browser, or it may be downloaded to disk.

You wouldn't be able to create the "hyperlinks" within the field (at least not with some sort of plugin).

If you think you know how many PDF's a record could contain, you could make that many URL fields. Next to each URL field you can put a button to activate a "Go to URL" script step. Or you could even make the field a button (you'd have to have another layout to edit them though).

If there are particulars you don't understand, we'll be happy to elaborate. Good luck!

Hello:

I would suggest looking at the Troi File Plug in. Not sure if it will give you the functionality youre looking for, but it is very useful. Be more specific as to your setup.

If they are online, Jason's suggestion is good.

If these pdfs are not web-based, you might consider storing the .pdfs in container fields in a child file, related to the main file. That way you can store multiples for each rec. Just seems easier than storing many different paths.
