Can't see DB from AOL Broadband

Hi,

I'm sharing a DB on one of my servers in my office. The port on the router is open, and others can connect to the database. However, the important person (the client) cannot see the database in the Hosts dialog. He is connected to the internet via AOL Broadband, and is using Windows XP.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can check to see why he does not see the database? I'll supply the IP address to those who would like to test it, please email '[email protected]'.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

David.

Have you checked your Firewall settings to make sure it allows passthrough on the FMP port?

Thanks for the reply.

As I mentioned in my original message, the port is open on the router, and others can get to the DB from the outside. The problem appears to be either AOL Broadband, or Windows XP.

Not sure... If the client is connecting through a firewall, then that could be a problem. Since FileMaker needs a specific port to allow that type of traffic, by default that port isn't open.

I have the same set-up at home and I work on databases that are in my office. Once I made sure all was well on my end and at the office, it was fine.

Maybe AOL has their own setup for security. I don't use AOL beacuse they usually screw stuff up on my computer.

Can your client connect to it using a web browser (i.e. if it was hosted on your computer using Web Companion)?
