Creating a searchable knownledge base

Featured Replies

Anyone one have a suggestions? I always rececive common questions about our software, so I thought I would TRY to create some sort of knownledge base for my users. All I want really is one field that you select the product you want info on and the other field is where you define the problem you're having. I would like it to some how point to either notes that I've created in another DB or tech notes that I have downloaded off the web. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank!

Why not import your downloads into your FM database in a text field that users can browse. Also create a field formatted as a popup list that indicates the program, and a second field for the subject or keyword field. The users permissions would then be restricted to browsing records and only the administrator would add new records. The users could use the find function to search for subjects on their program of interest or could just view all of the topics in a list format.

If you prefer to have the database just act as a directory to your downloaded files then you could create a button that runs a script which includes the "open URL" script step using a hidden field in which you've entered the relevant URLs linking to your files.
