Auto size field in layout- remov unused space

Featured Replies

I am trying to reduce the size of a field according to the amount of text input to the field so that a report layout doesn't have so much blank space between fields. I have applied the slide/print function to the specific fields requiring various widths which works in the preview mode. How can I get this function to work in the Browse mode?

Thanks, Scott

Check out the slid option in the Layout Mode

Go to Layout Mode - Menu - Format - Sliding/Printing. You have three different options on how you want the field to slide.

Hi Scott,

I don't think there is a way to accomplish what you are asking. Sliding is meant for printing (and preview mode) only. Even if you could automatically resize a cell... you cannot resize a cell in a single record without resizing it in all records.

If you want sliding/printing effects in Browser mode AND stilkl be a ble to enter data into the fields, you are out of luck. They are mutually exclusive.

In browse mode you can use merge fields to reproduce the effect of sliding/printing, but merge fields do not accept data entry.

...but even with merged text, the part won't resize, so if you're looking at a list of records (rather than a list of fields), this won't help much.

Hi Scott,

Since you were referring to a report, and the extra space you were seeing, I took that to mean you were seeing this when printing, in which case the sliding function is the only way to handle it.

However, if it is in the browse mode you are referring to, then others have given you the bad news.
