[color:"green"] I'm pretty new to all of this. I just was cruising ebay and found Filemaker Pro Server 3.0 for Windows NT there. Is it better to buy that one and upgrade it for only $499 or better to buy the $999 one from FileMaker?

Check with Filemaker and make sure that you can upgrade that specific version, also be careful as what this might be is that someone bought, registered and then upgraded this copy and are now selling it online. You may find that Filemaker will refuse to support or upgrade you because the license has been violated by the previous owner.
