Multiple records of portal information

Featured Replies

I have just completed my first portal data base and everything is working great EXCEPT I have multiple records equal to the number of records showing in my portal. Example: One person has attended four workshops - my portal lists all four workshops but I also have four records showing the same thing. I don't even know where to start to look. Can someone get me going in the right direction?

Is your portal showing 8 records?

What do you mean "I also have four records showing the same thing"? Do you mean that you have four records for the same person, each one showing the same four workshops in the portal? If so, figure out how you created all those extra records -- you don't need to do that.

I have a parent database and three children that I am linking to. The parent is showing all the correct information from the children through the portal. The problem is that the parent record is repeating the same number of records as are in the portal. I am importing online registrations from SQL into the database. If I were to do a fine for person A and he was registered for four workshops, there would be four identical records for him - all with the correct information. If he were registered for five - there would be five records. So the parent is making as many records as the portal has records. Does that help to explain? You can tell I am a beginner.

Sounds like you're importing data into the parent file, rather than just into the child file (BTW, you can only have data from one child DB ... or "file", or "table" ... in a portal -- a silly syntax thing, I know, but that's how it's stated). Once you have a record in the parent file, there's no need to re-create that record.
