Hi Guys,

Im a newbie, hoping someone can help me out.

Is it possible to export to Excel, where each record goes down a column rather than a row. Possibly using repeating fields?

Use the Export option "Merge"

Export to tab-separated text, then import into Excel.

Then, once in Excel, copy the data, go to a new sheet and choose "Paste Special". Click the "Transpose" box, and you're set.

BTW, as a general rule, never use repeating fields. There are exceptions, but you won't find 'em anytime soon.
