April 16, 200322 yr My standard db is 240kb. I have a 20kb graphic to insert. I am using a global container and from browse mode using the insert, picture to insert my graphic. So then why is my db blowing out to 1.4mb when i am inserting a 20kb graphic into a global??? I understand that it may be a bit more than 20kb to deal with the graphic, but 1+mb seems a bit ridiculous. Any ideas?
April 16, 200322 yr What format is the graphic? Whatever it is, you can bet that when it's imported into Filemaker, it takes up a whale of a lot more space. I highly recommend you only save a link to the graphic. The upside is that your DB doesn't get appreciably larger. The downside is that you can't move the graphic. For the "happy medium", create a "graphics" folder to house copies of all graphics you import, then create the link. That way, there's no worry about moving the graphics, since they'll all be in the one folder.
April 16, 200322 yr Author My graphic is a jpg. I understand the concept of using a link, but not quite sure of your "link" facility in filemaker. Is it somewhat like the HTML code [color:"blue"] <IMG SRC = "../images/fred.jpg"> B)
