I am wondering if anyone has experienced problems having a Windows based machine, or a Mac with OS 9 host a file, and then try to open that hosted file as a guest in an OS X environment. I am getting multi-user issue, stating that the file is a single user.

I have rechecked, the multiuser connections, the TCP/IP, and everything is correct. So why can't the OS X get into the file as a guest?

thanks for any help,

paul

How are you opening the file from the client?

You should be using the "Hosts" button in the open dialog, or "Open Remote" under the file menu.

If you do that, I don't see how you could end up with a single user error since the file would never show up in the Hosts dialog to begin with.

Hi, Paul! Woody's right... the OPEN REMOTE option should work OK. I believe MacOS9 has the option of using AppleTalk for multi-users so you can double-click the file and whoever does it first is the host and anyone double-clicking after is a guest. In MacOSX, you can ONLY use TCP/IP and you can no longer double-click the file once it's been opened. You must use OPEN REMOTE.

Yeah, those single-user errors are not entirely accurate. It took me a while to figure it out (or rather, find the info somewhere in FMP docs/website). Hope this helps!

It worked great. I wonder why they did away with that ability. It would be so much easier to double click on it.

Anyone else have problems with networking and the new OS 10.2.5 update? I have had severe problems with the OS X running really slow when trying to access files on a Novell Windows 2000 network. We ended up having to go back to the eariler version. I read that reparing the permissions would fix it, but it never worked completely.
