I have a problem with getting the computer boot, it seems that the system start and shuts off and starts and shuts off again and again. I can only boot in safe mode. What can I do to fix this problem. I use windows NT. My computer might be infected by a virus, but still boots in safe mode. Please any help is appreciated.

What did you did before that happens? I did experience few times the same, not with NT, but with W2K after some updates from M$ frown.gif

Uninstalling that update in safe mode helped.

You can also try Windows recovery (repair) procedure.

It would be helpful if you provide more details, ie. did you install a new driver? new software? an update? etc.

If you already tried "Last Known Good Configuration" option, there are others advanced options available.

You can try using the following:

-Recovery Console, or

-Emergency Repair Disk

Visit microsoft knowledge base to find out more about these features.

"I use windows NT"

-4 or 5?

"might be infected by a virus"

-sometimes virus trully reflects after you "make a change" eg. updating/installing new SP or Rec.updates: Remove new and then clean up from the vir.

Is this a workstation or a server?

It also might be a new hardware that was added...NT4 is really bad with PnP..or inther words is has none....HAL is easily corrupted.

AND for the most part...where did the backup go?

...I am sure Bill G. has a clone "just in case"...by the same token...

good luck
