Connecting to servers 9 and 10 style

Featured Replies

I've been using Applescript for a little while now, but still have a difficult time thinking along the lines of applescript. I can't help but think in terms of Perl and C. Anyway, I'm just trying to do something very simple. That is, I want to connect to a server with OS 9. And a version to connect to a server in OS X too. These applescripts would be launched from FileMaker as a preliminary process before launching an existing Applescript which moves things to these servers which reside on our LAN and have a known i.p. address. Any help with this simple task would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm thinking incorrectly and the connecting to the server has to be coupled with the existing moving of files. I dunno, some day I'll get the hang of this.

By "connecting to the server," do you mean mount the server volume in the Finder? Then you need to use Tell Application "Finder"...

Yes, mounting of the server. I figured it will be a Tell to the Finder... but what do I tell the Finder? (OS 9 and X) I see only open as an option... I don't see Connect To Server (apple-K if you will) as an option. I'm sure by now you have been able to deduce my "expertise" in applescripting smile.gif.

mount volume "volumename" on server "servername" as user name "username" with password "password"

or

mount volume "afp://192.168.0.0/MacHD" as user name "xx" with password "xx"

For OS 9 be sure to have keychain access set-up, otherwise your script will hang.
