Peter Fenner Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 I like kiosk mode. Sure, it has it's limitations - but the ability to design databases where I control every pixel appeals to me (as opposed to having to allow for windows task bar, etc which would mean I never know the users actual useable screen space). So far I have always created my databases on a mac for use by mac users only. As I will be expanding into a PC environment as well I would like to maintain my use of kiosk mode. My problem is this: On windows (xp home) kiosk mode has a
danjacoby Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 Use a Mac! OK, so much for flippant answers. You could leave space for the border. A few pixels shouldn't matter that much -- if they do, then your layout is far too crowded.
Peter Fenner Posted May 13, 2003 Author Posted May 13, 2003 Thanks danjacoby I agree, I wish I could just stay within the Mac environment. But Bill does have world dominance. I have about a 25px black border around all four sides of my database in kiosk mode - I agree it is too crowded when butting up against the monitor edge. My problem with the PC border is that it is ugly! Also, i have some very effective front page layouts that have no border - just a logo and log-in button positioned 2/3 across and 2/3 down. The PC border stuffs this up. I realise I am probably just going to have to accept this. Pete
SteveB Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 I also do kiosks, but only on Windows platforms. Your issue is not really XP but Mac vs Windows. I've run my kiosks on 98, ME and XP and they're pretty much identical in terms of handling the borders and screen placement, so if you get it right for XP it should work for all the others. Steve
Peter Fenner Posted May 13, 2003 Author Posted May 13, 2003 Thanks Steve - I'm stll annoyed about the border being there in the first place, but al least it is consistent with different windows systems. Pete
