Recommended FM Server Windows 2000 or OSX

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am looking for non-bias recomendations for a FM Server. Is it more stable to be running under Windows 2000 or Mac OS X? At a previous client's location we setup 2 FM servers 1-Mac solution and 1-Windows 2000 solution. The windows 2000 server ran flawlessly while the mac repeatedly had problems. I personally am leaning towards another windows 2000 server but I wanted the feedback on anyone who has experience with both and can offer an non-bias opinion. No mac vs win wars please.

Win 2000.

(And I have been promoting Macs sine 1985)

With next version of FM Server, I would not be so sure, but 5.5 server does not run well on Mac OS X.

Windows 2000 *client* OS. Not server.

According to some users, also Linux version is very fast. See the server performance thread.

You can't go wrong with Win2000 AS. I have seen more than a few ppl with odd problems using FM 5.5 & 6 on OSX. We run FMU 6 on a G4 350 w/ OSX.2.5 Server, and I have not experienced any real problems (yet!).

Adrian.... I can only speak from my personal experience with OSX. As long as you do development offline, I have had no problems running FMServer 5.5 on OSX 10.2 on a dual G4 tower. Now 6 months without a reboot. And yes, I am running RAID disk mirroring.

Thanks everyone for their helpful replies. We will most likely go with a Windows 2000 solution.
