Newbies annab Posted May 28, 2003 Newbies Posted May 28, 2003 2 out of our 8 FM users are on OSX and use FM 5.0 in the Classic surrounding. When one of this OSX users host the Server nobody of the OS9 users can host de server anymore. Is there someone who has the same problem or knowes what the problem can be. Also FM is performing very slow in OSX .
Newbies annab Posted June 13, 2003 Author Newbies Posted June 13, 2003 Problem solved!!! For everyone struggling with the same. With some help from others we've solved this problem. The solution is very simple... For every user I have a personal local Filemaker file with buttons which opens the other files on the server. These files were accidently set on 'filesharing multi-user' . By setting those local files on 'exclusive' all the problems are solved. Even the speed of FM for the OSX users is now back to normal.
Anatoli Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 IMHO, you are doing strange things with FM. I didn't understand single bit from your both posts :
paulage77 Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 It doesn't sound like you are using FM Server, but just file sharing is on. Do multiple users run FM Server?!
Newbies annab Posted June 17, 2003 Author Newbies Posted June 17, 2003 I'm very sorry if i am not very clear about this. I hope this will explain some. No, we don't have multiple users running FM Server. FM server runs on a stand alone computer. For every one I've created a personal start-up file, which runs local. Because everyone has other restrictions. With this start-up file it's easier for everyone to find the information they need. This is the only file that is running local. The file only contains a password and some buttons, that's all. Maybe I am doing some strange things with Filemaker, Anatoli, could be... I learned it myself with lots of information from books and the internet. So it's possible that I am doing some things not as regular. I am not a professional developer it's something I do in between my normal work, but it's getting a bit out of hand. We started with a database for our adresses, and now we have almost the whole administration of our company run by Filemaker... so hope this explains. And I'm glad that everything is running well now!
Vaughan Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Make sure each user's copy of FMP is patched to the latest version. Visit www.filemaker.com to get them.
LiveOak Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 I would add that it is not a good idea to directly share any files from the OS X machine hosting FM Server. From your posts I got the idea that users were opening FM files directly that should only be opened through FM Server. -bd
Newbies annab Posted June 18, 2003 Author Newbies Posted June 18, 2003 Thanks to all for the response! Vaughan, I will look into it...
