We are upgrading 2 of our FMServers. If we give the new servers a different name then our old servers, how does FMP deal with that? Will it automatically link files up with the new name when we bring the databases online? I first thought was that it would not deal with it nicely but I wanted to confirm. If we need to, we can give the new server the same name as the old. It would be much nicer if we can give it a new name. Thanks for any input you can offer.

Thanks,

John

IMHO if your databases sit in single server, there is no need for anything. Use whatever is OK for you.

If you are using files from 2 locations (servers) and files are linked, you must probably go through scripts, relations and field definition.

Anatoli,

So if our databases sit on a single server, there should be no problem with giving the new server a new name and then bringing over the databases?

John

I don't think so.

Stop the service -- hosting -- on previous server as well, so clients will not mix data.

Cool, that makes things a whole lot simpler.

Thanks for the input!
