open a file using an external script

Hi,

I am very new to filemaker. Could someone please recommend a replacement method to external scripts with Instant web publishing. Many of the buttons on the

starting form of my database use scripts which contain perform external script.

One work around might be changing the script so it uses the Open step, then when the file opens, it has a startup script which pulls up the right layout. But this wouldn't work for multiple buttons that open the same file, just different layouts.
