Transferring Settings to a New Server

Featured Replies

I'm about to build a new server (going from a PII 266 w/ 128mb of ram (ran pretty dang well on that) to a PIII 866 w/ 512mb ram. How can i copy my settings from my old server to new?

Thanks

What settings are you referring to? Filemaker Server itself has relativly few settings, so doing them manually is probably easier than any kind of transfer.

P.S. 512 RAM is way overkill for Filemaker Server, which only uses about 40MB of RAM max. Filemaker is totally disk driven and only uses RAM for running the server application.

In fact, unless you are going to be installing a new FASTER hard drive, I doubt that you'll see much of any speed inprovements.

I"m doing the upgrade more for my retrospect server (backup). Plus the current hardware is about 8 years old running non-stop, bound to die any day now. Going from 6gb ATA 33 w/ 20mb free to 40 gb ATA/66 with multiple gigs free. I'll see improvement.

Probably yes.

What version of FMS you have?

Do not use Windows Server software, FMS will not benefit from that. Use just NT class workstation OS.
