tawatana Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 Hi, I've been trying to get full access privileges of "The Gateway" by Giuseppe Pupita at http://fmfiles.com/ to see how it works. On some previous postings, people seem to indicate that it can be done but I can't find how to do it. Are we allowed to look at the inner workings of it? Or is just a 'viewing' application. Thanks Brian
tawatana Posted June 25, 2003 Author Posted June 25, 2003 Thanks Lee. I might seem like a doofus but I still can't get in. Don't I need a username as well as the password? (admin/gateway and gateway/gateway don't work) Or is there some sort of secret key combo that I need to hit. Cheers Brian
BobWeaver Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 Don't confuse the login system with the Filemaker password. When you open the file, you may have to force it to ask for the password (by holding down the option key on the Mac, or ctrl or alt--not sure which--on Windows when you open the file).
ryanzon Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 In Windows, it's Holding shift while opening the database
Lee Smith Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 Hi Brian, Sorry I wasn't more specific. So to capsulize what the others said, On a Mac hold down the Option Key, or on a Win hold down the Shift Key, [color:"red"] as you open the file. This will give you FileMaker's Password box. This is the box you type in gateway. Then when the file is opened, you get the Menu that asks for admin/admin or user/user and you type in admin and admin. Bingo, full access to the files. HTH Lee
tawatana Posted June 26, 2003 Author Posted June 26, 2003 Thanks folks. I understand this Filemaker access control a bit better now, even though it's a bit strange. I'll probably find this in another post somewhere but briefly, do tailor-made login systems still have to go through the filemaker password system? Or can you bypass it altogether? Just thinking about it myself, I'm sure you could but it would be a big task to manually create permission rules etc.. So I guess it's much less time-consuming to incorporate a private login system into the filemaker password system. Cheers Brian
Anatoli Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 In FM you can build login system, which will use combination of FM security and will not ask for FM passwords, e.g. with Simple Dialog and Dialog Magic.
