relationship blues

Hey list!

I have two files that relate to each by a unique calculation. As many of these as I have done, I can't figure out the reason the following is occurring:

Both use a calculation to establish a unique ID and to related to each other, example: My Title9351 (combining a title text field, a three digit event code, 935, and class, the last digit. So in my list database I have hundreds of these that work great except this title:

20. Shady Grove (from Two-Part American Songs, Book 2)9331

20. Shady Grove (from Two-Part American Songs, Book 2)9351

both still have a unique ID separated b/t the 3 and 5. In my entry database, when I choose the second one and want to pull related data, it lists data from the first one although both calculations in each file are working properly. Indexing is turned on and Do not evaluate if...is deselected. Here's the weird part: if the entry is 54 characters including spaces or LESS, it works perfectly. 55 and the relationship doesn't work. I've heard about referential integrity, but I thought FileMaker took care of that. Is it possible that although these still have a unique ID that there's a character limit for a relationship to work?

I don't know how to explain this, so I appreciate your help or suggestions.

Hoz

Hi Hoz,

Yep! That'd be it!

There is a 20 character per word limit and 60 characters (including spaces) per total key. You're pushing the limits, my friend!

Been there ... done it! smile.gif
