Open all Files Challenge

Featured Replies

Good day, everyone,

I would like to open all files being served off of FM Server 5. My thought has been to obtain a list of all files on the server, and then simply use a script to Open each of them.

But, I have two problems. First, I don't know how to obtain a list of all files on the server dynamically. The list of files will change on a regular basis as I am developing a very large solution. And second, how do I use the Open script command with, possibly, a value stored in a field?

Once all files are opened, I can use the script commands to get the list of the all the files and perform my operations. But the key to my challenge is to get all the files on the server opened.

I am using FileMaker Pro 5.5 to do the majority of my development. I also have access to FileMaker Pro 6.

All noble developers please provide your thoughts.

Thank you,

damyena

Sorry, no way to get dynamically list of opened FM databases on FM server.

One way would be to create a standard reference field (or universal reference, or universal key - depending on your training)in each database and use a defined relationship to the primary trigger db

(with the same SRF. This would auto open all files.

One question: are the databases dynamically changing because of your development? or are there other developers adding files? Sounds like there needs to be a project plan.
