flora Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 This is spooky action for sure. I've defined a calculation field which works in one layout and not another. When I go to the second layout where the calculation doesn't work and go to the Define Fields list, there is my calculation. When the calculation didn't work, I almost expected to have to redefine the field. But Nooo, there was the calculation just as I had defined it in the previous layout. I thought I was pretty clear that a field's action applies from layout to layout, even if they don't show; nevertheless, this field shows in both layouts and only returns the result in one. Should I have defined the field in the layout I wanted to show the world? This issue must be related to my novice status. Thanks for help from the experienced users. Flora
ernst Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 Hi Flora, Do those two layouts have the same view (Form, List, Table) and is the calculation field placed on the same part in both cases? (header, body, footer) Your issue could be caused by something like that. Regards, Ernst.

I could GUESS at what you mean, but that probably wouldn't help you. Do you mean that the calc is not working on a particular layout, then you go to define fields and re-define the calc and then it works on that layout? If so, what type of layout is this? Try deleting the layout and re-creating it. Ken
LaRetta Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 Hi Flora, I assume you mean that when you double-click the field and it displays its field definition. Check above that - that the relationship is correct. In other words if you have a self-join the field name would be the same but the result might be different if you aren't using the Main relationship. When you switch layouts, are you manually switching them or using a script? Maybe it's jumping to a different record - calcs apply to each record, although you haven't indicated what your calc contains. Place your unique ID on each layout, manually change layouts and see if it changes. LaRetta
