I'm adding a subsummary field to an existing layout as part of a subsumamry. All the other fields have little up arrows which indicate to me that they will be generated dynamically. However the new field I've added only shows one repetition and isn't being dynamically generated like the other fields. I noticed it's missing the little up arrow at the bottom of its field border. Any ideas on how to set the field to have the up arrow and be part of the subsummary?

Thanks.

Chris

I think you're talking about the little up arrow that indicates a sliding field. Go to Layout mode, then the View menu, Show: Sliding objects to turn those arrows on and off. I don't know what you mean by "generated dynamically," unless you're referring to their sliding behavior.

To make a field slide, go to Layout mode, then select the field and an object above it, go to the Format menu, Sliding/Printing, and click the checkbox.

Summary fields can't have repeats. Did you put the field on a subsummary part? Subsummary parts only show in Preview or when printed, and then only if you have sorted by that part's required field.

I've noticed, with this particular report, that there are a lot of calculated fields. I added the field I wanted to the original sort, so that I could subsummarize by it, and it started recalculating every calculated field for every record. There are literally thousands of records. Would I only have to do this master "resort" once, and then the subsort would do the rest?

Even though the initial sort would take hours -- if I only have to do it once it would be worth it.
