August 13, 200322 yr Newbies Hi, I am upgrading my old filemaker database FM3 to FM6 pro, and trying to setup the web companion so my database can be viewed from computers around the office. The way I understand it is that the web companion is the best way to do this, otherwise I would need a copy of filemaker on every machine that accesses the databases...right? Anyway, the most pressing Question for now is....When I access my databases through the web browser, my data is not updating. The best way I can explain this is, I have a Customer database, and when I want to write a Quote, I open the Quote File, Enter customer number, and the customer information pops up. It is not doing this when I access through the web. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks -Martin
August 13, 200322 yr You may have to perform a "Search" on the "Customer Number" first. Good Luck. Garry
August 14, 200322 yr Author Newbies Garry, Thanks for the reply. I checked into searching, but it was no help. It still does not work. Just because I think my previous explanation was a little misleading, I'm going to try and explain better. In Filemaker Pro, I have a customer db, and a quote db. When I open the Quote db and create a new record, I can just type in the customer number which is stored in the customer db. In Filemaker, the new record in the Quote db is automatically updated with the information. I guess what I am trying to say is this problem most effects me when i am trying to create new records. It works fine in filemaker, but not when accessing through web companion. If anyone had any more suggestions or info, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Martin
August 25, 200322 yr Hi, M! You should be able to do exactly the same thing on the web as you do with your db's but you just have to do it a little differently. What you have is a relational database that is either showing related fields from Customers in your Quotes db, or your Quotes db is performing a LOOKUP of info and copying data from Customers into Quotes. On the web using standard FMP CDML, you cannot have data magically appear in your newly created record as soon as you type the customer number in as you can with FMP live. FMP Web Companion must perform an action (-find/-new/-edit, etc.) before your data will show up. This means, you'll probably have to split up your customer number entering and your seeing of the data. I haven't used much relational stuff on the web but it doesn't seem any hard than standard flat db's... just some more tags and notations. Hope this helps some. --ST
