September 14, 200322 yr Ok didn't know exactly where to post this one, so let's go here since it involves a field (at least). Need to track two things: -last date and time a layout was viewed in browse mode in a particular record -last date and time data in a layout were edited in a particular record As to the former, I have a solution whose navigation in fully script-controlled and a Set Field works fine to track any displaying of particular layouts. Though, I would ask if there's any way to do it on the fly in a file whose navigation is free. As to the latter... no idea. I remember doing this in Hypercard years (decades?) ago with two clicks, though I don't know how anymore and this couldn't help. Thank you for your suggestions if you are ever solved this.
September 14, 200322 yr Hi Logixx, It is very easy to track modification date and time, just define a date and time field en set them to auto-enter the modification date and time. To achieve tracking of the viewing time and date *without* controlling navigation with scripts is not possible as far as I know. Regards, Ernst.
September 14, 200322 yr RE: -last date and time data in a layout were edited in a particular record Various techniques exist and this was quite frequently mentioned on some Forums here. For the former I believe only scripted solution exist.

Ernst, Thank you for the reply. Though, a auto-enter field with modification date and time will 'update' as soon as any data is modified in the record. What I need is to track modification on some particular fields, eg those displayed in a particular layout.

No doubt about that. But a one hour search thru the forum didn't result in a comprehensive approach of the problem. That's why I 'dared' asking again. Could you get me in tracks quoting an appropriate link?
September 14, 200322 yr What you are trying to do I think is to track Field Modifications, or Audit Trail. Did you see this link when you searched. Audit was the Keyword HTH Lee

I just want to remember the last time a field was modified. Obviously I will find my way in the links you mentioned. Thanx for the tip.
