Newbies Gene Magerr Posted September 16, 2003 Newbies Posted September 16, 2003 Hi guys, I'm very new to filemaker and need help. My employer has purchased a program called Studio Suite. This program enables the employees to enter information pertaining to jobs we are doing. (we're a post production facility) He wants to be able to password protect certain things on certain pages, for example we have a client database. He would like to have it so if you are not a member of a certain group you cannot access that part of the page. Even better if you are not a member of a certain group, then you shouldn't even be able to see what you don't have access to. Am i being clear? So with that said, is there a way to create groups. assign users to those groups and then assign access privileges to the groups? wow that sure sounds like a lot. i've done this using ASP on the web, but I haven't a clue as to how it can be accomplished with filemaker. Thanks in advance for any help.
Lee Smith Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 Two questions, Why aren't you asking these questions to the developer of Studio Suite? Do you even have the master password that will allown any changes to Studio Suite? Lee
kenneth2k1 Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 Hi: Is this a web app? Is this even a FM file? In FM, you can set access privledges by going to File/Access Privledges. There you can define passwords, groups and access.
Newbies Gene Magerr Posted September 16, 2003 Author Newbies Posted September 16, 2003 Well no we don't have the master password. We have sat with the developer many many
Lee Smith Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 It would be my guess that the Developers have protected their proprietary rights from having being stolen (pirated) by keeping it locked down through password protection. This also sounds like it might also be a runtime or standalone solution, in which case it can't altered without the Develop Edition. In plain talk, you should be able to do what you want to do. However, you could check and see what FileMaker tools are available in the menu, whether or not you can enter layout mode, etc. Lee
kenneth2k1 Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 If the files have .fp5 extensions, then this would not be a runtime. Most developers will not give out the master password, because they usually lock layout mode and set other access privledges that only they can change. This is to ensure that the users don't screw things up and come crying back to the developer. It is possible that more than one password will have full file access, and it's possible that only the "master" password has full access. To find out, you will have to: 1. Try changing the access privledges or 2. Contact the developer.
kenneth2k1 Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 whoa. how did I double post? I thought that was impossible.
