I need to create simple drawings within filemaker, to be stored in a field. These would be almost stick figure like in simplicity, so the tools could be quite basic. Is this possible? Thanks!

Hi Jason,

Three ways:

1) Paste your picture into a Container (while in Browse mode). A different picture will apply to each record.

2) Paste your picture into a global Container (while in Browse mode). The same picture will apply to every record.

3) Get really good at using the line, rectange and circle icons in your Status Area. You could draw stick figures but nothing else. Select them all, group them, copy them and paste them into 1 or 2 crazy.gif

The best idea is to draw in another program. grin.gif

I probably underestimated my drawing needs. These would be basic schematic drawings of the retina - very simple - just need a few tools, but probably more than the built in filemaker tools (I also want to restrict users from entering the layout mode).

What would be a good, simple drawing program that would integrate with filemaker? Would I use Applescript?

Sounds like you are a mac user. AppleWorks should be the tool you need.

As far as integration into filemaker, you might be able to build an applescript and create an application to put on the dock (or scriptmenu) have the script take the front window of appleworks and select all, copy the contents and paste into a container field in filemaker (new or existing record). If you want a file reference, you could get the path to the frontmost window and set the container to a reference to the file. (I've not recently looked at appleworks, but I believe it is fairly scriptable.)
