Newbies leenu_n Posted October 24, 2003 Newbies Posted October 24, 2003 Hi, I have Filemaker 5.0 database application. I now want to migrate it onto SQL Server but keep Filemaker as the front end user interface. Is it possible? How is it done ? and what kind of time frames are we looking at ?
Kurt Knippel Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 Hmm, this is a tough question. Basically here is what happens: User enters some kind of find criteria, SQL query is constructed and passed to SQL server, which returns a set of records (via a SQL Import). User than manipulates those records in Filemaker and if any changes are made another SQL query is constructed to update the SQL Server (via SQL Export). This happens over and over again. There are several SQL options for Filemaker: its own built-in SQL capabilities or one of the third-party SQL plug-ins. Are you looking to implement this yourself? Or are you looking to contract someone to do it for you?
kenannet1 Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 SQL Plug-in is your answer I believe. It leaves the channel on all the time, so that you can set your thin client front end to SQL (even with ORACLE). With the "getRow" function you can simulate flipping through records just as if they were actually in FileMaker database. http://www.profdata.nl
