simoncpage Posted October 26, 2003 Posted October 26, 2003 Hi Is there anyway that anyone knows of as you are entering a new record being able to search. I want to try to stop duplication so as someone is entering a new contact for example on the left after each entry it is throwing up a search on the side? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Simon
ernst Posted October 26, 2003 Posted October 26, 2003 Hello Simon and welcome, I think that the easiest way to achieve this would be to have a separate entry layout and then do all checking upon exitting the entry layout. Regards, Ernst.

CobaltSky Posted October 26, 2003 Posted October 26, 2003 Hi Simon, ...as someone is entering a new contact for example on the left after each entry it is throwing up a search on the side? Sounds like you're talking about a 'type ahead' style feature. - something that is sometimes referred to as 'clairvoyance, where as the user types, entries that start with the same letters are displayed in an adjacent list. If that is indeed what you mean, then you p[robably fine the folllowing tech info article of interest: http://www.filemaker.com/ti/103956.html There are a few demos of the technique also floating around. If you're interested, you might like to visit http://www.databasepros.com/resources.html and do a search on 'clairvoyance' - which will likely produce something useful.
