Newbies julescat Posted October 30, 2003 Newbies Posted October 30, 2003 I've never posted and perhaps I am asking an obvious question, but I have FM6 on my computer in my office. Everyone in the department (which is in a different building, but on the same network) has FM6 as well. I have a database in which everyone needs read-only access. I finally have the passwords set up properly, and I set up remote access, but when anyone tries to open it in the other building they get a message that says: "maximum number of users," which is a problem. I am wondering if I have a single user version and I need a multiple user version or what else I can do? I am using OS 10.2.8
zincb Posted October 30, 2003 Posted October 30, 2003 It appears that you have diagnosed the problem. Sounds like they are all running the same copy of FMP -- check with Filemaker for volume licensing, or check eBay for an unlimited copy. One other possibility is that you have set share permissions to allow only one user to access the directory where the file sits.
Anatoli Posted October 30, 2003 Posted October 30, 2003 The Unlimited tip is completely misleading. Unlimited is single user FM client that is serving Unlimited IP over the web. Do you have the database set to multi-user? Are people accessing it through HOST button?
Newbies julescat Posted October 30, 2003 Author Newbies Posted October 30, 2003 I have FM Network sharing set at multi-user. Everyone has tried accessing through "open remote." What is opening through host?
Fitch Posted October 30, 2003 Posted October 30, 2003 Open remote is the same as choosing Open, then clicking the Host button.
Anatoli Posted October 30, 2003 Posted October 30, 2003 Is the file set as multi-user? RE: Everyone has tried accessing through "open remote." What is opening through host? The same thing, but "open remote" is not in older versions. Did you try Specify Host and enter your IP? When you said "which is in a different building, but on the same network" is there some kind of firewall between?
