Attached is one available option. The only scripting necessary is for creating a new record, then exiting and re-entering the record, to force the lookups when the record is again exited. This is performed by the 'New Record' button.

I would put only the necessary data entry fields for the virtual 'serial' on a separate layout, and a continue button on this layout to move to the main entry screen afterwards. You never want to have this information modified again, or your data will be invalid.

Update: The attachment has been modified to account for instances where the Client may not have been entered first, and will not calculate the Order Number until this data has been entered. Also, the Order Number will not continue to calculate once the field has performed its initial lookup.
