November 20, 200322 yr How can this be? I have put a file into the server folder as I should but when I go to open it it comes up saying error. I can not see it in the hosts dialog either. I have only ever se5t up server once, have I forgotten something?

November 21, 200322 yr I have gotten a common problem when I rebuild a database and try to re-serve it via server , server says it can't open. I then go and open it directly in FMP, change nothing, close it again then try and reopen it and it opens and serves fine. Charles
November 21, 200322 yr Author Details are,Windows 2000 server I am using FMserver 5.5 with Filemaker 6. When I go to set the files to shared, I am given the message that there is a network error and that this file can not be set to shared. Please note that everything else seems to be sharing fine! BTW the file in question is a brand new empty file. In fact it is a filemaker template "Photo Catalog". This is driving me up the walls.
November 21, 200322 yr Did you select the Network protocol in FM preferences? Or there is another network error, like missing NIC card or nothing selected in Networking in OS level or...
November 21, 200322 yr I hope you are not trying to run FM server and FM client on the same machine in the same time?
November 21, 200322 yr Author Server is always running. So I had to open the FMfile with FMPro on the server machine. I will try getting everyone to closedown so that I can open the file and make the changes. Please note that I tried to open the file with remote administrator before and it would not open.

November 23, 200322 yr Author I have done it. Yes the server was running and the file was set to sinlge user. I guess one day that I will have to sit down and learn how to use server.
