Himitsu Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 I was wondering if there is a way to show the newest records in a portal first. Everytime I create a new payment, it adds it to the next line in the portal. I have read a few posts about sorting a portal. It sounds like that would do it but I have no idea how to sort in a portal. Could someone explain it to me? Thanks a ton!
BobWeaver Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 You can specify a sort order when you define the relationship that the portal uses. If you have a serial number field in the related file, you can sort the relationship by that field in descending order. Then items in the portal will appear with the most recent at the top.
Lee Smith Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 OR, if the relationship is reflecting all of the records for the ID number, sort by creation date (you have one right) in descending order.
LaRetta Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 Hi Himitsu, If you don't already have an ID or CreationDate establishd, you can create a calculation (text) in your related file with = Status(CurrentRecordID). Then just sort by that in your Define Relationships. I always reverse my portals on data-entry screens. Users appreciate seeing their last entry first and it's usually in the logical sequence in which they want it anyway. LaRetta
Himitsu Posted November 21, 2003 Author Posted November 21, 2003 oh... I knew that sort function was there... daaaaa.... well thanks everyone.... sorry I am such a but head on that. Sometimes it seems I don't use the muscle that matters the most. LaRetta, that is a very good point. I think I am going to use that in most of my sheets. It is like the news theory, Old news is No news. Thanks for everything.
