jon2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 how can i get filemaker pro developer to be the recipient of an email (i can set up an exchange account for it) and when an email is sent, to create a record based on the details of that email? is this feasible, achieveable, doable or any other ...ables??
fishma Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 You can use the SMPTit plugin (found here http://www.cnsplug-ins.com/products.htm?product=SMTPit ). I have used SMPTit and it's sister plugin POP3it to create a full-on email client. Both plugins are very solid. Keep in mind that you will need to understand how Exchange stores and serves emails. Good Luck... Clark!
jon2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Author Posted February 3, 2004 so i can effectively send an email to a filemaker database and then parse the body and subject fields of that email and create a record automatically? hooray!
jon2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Author Posted February 3, 2004 errr..... i've just read the blurb with the above product, and it uses the word "send" a lot, not "receive" at all, just to clarify: i have a 3rd party program that sends emails out, i want my database to RECEIVE the email and then create a record based on that email, i don't want my database to send anything out! (god, what i'd give for a Lotus Domino server....)
fishma Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Sorry Jon, It's early and I've not had enough Coffee. POP3it Receives emails, SMPTit sends them. Clark
jon2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Author Posted February 3, 2004 thanks - i sort of worked it out from the blurb... sounds like the sort of thing i can use, providing it meets a few requirements
bruceR Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 Many email apps are scriptable and have automatic actions you can perform when the subject or sender meets your criteria. So you could just use your existing mail app - which leaves a copy of the mail in your email application.
jon2004 Posted February 4, 2004 Author Posted February 4, 2004 yes, but in this case filemaker would be the email app, so is it scriptable to receive an email, sent to it via a pop3 server?
kenneth2k1 Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 I would HIGHLY recommend the SMTPit and POP3it plug-ins. If you buy both at the same time, I think its only like 80 boodles. Well worth it. All kinds of functionality.
