FileMaker Server does not provide an ODBC data source, only FileMaker Pro clients expose themselves as ODBC data sources. You'll have to set a computer with FileMaker Pro aside (leave it logged in and connected to the FileMaker Server) to act as the ODBC server for your third party applications (your custom VB program).

Oh, and FileMaker requires you to use FileMaker Pro Unlimited as the client software on the machine that you pick as the ODBC provider for FileMaker (their licensing requires Unlimited whenever you connect a third party application to to FileMaker).

Hope this helps!
