Dynamically growing text fields...?

Is it possible to create a simple text field (FileMaker Pro 6),

which grows and gets bigger, when I enter text?

Let's say the field has only 3 lines, and I enter 5 lines of text.

Then the field should become bigger; the other content under the field

should move down as well.

Is this possible?

Chris

Nope. FileMaker figures you know how BIG you want a field to be. You can attach scroll bar to a field using the Format in Layout Mode. It will however slide things up to some extent when printing if you use the Menu - Format - Slide/Printing (last item in the list).

Hi,

I can remember a neat workaround posted a while back by Bob, that quite answered this request, involving a space storage.

I don't have the link, but as soon as EddyB comes back, he surely will provide a link for this tip or thread.

Hi, I think that this is the post that Ugo's referring to. It's a great method that Bob provided.

Ed

Eddy, did you ever sort out the problem with the spaces?

Hi Bob,

In the end it turned out that there was no problem with the courier font. If I recall correctly I had entered something wrong in the calculation so that an incorrect number of spaces were being added and so that was the cause of the columns still not being aligned correctly. Once I went back over it and checked everything against what you had taught me, I found the problem. Everything worked superbly after that. My users were very happy!

Thanks Bob

Best regards

Ed
