Unwanted portal rows

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a layout showing for each record in the current table, related records from another table through a portal.

Everything's fine except that the last row in the portal leads to the same record as the upper row. Besides, the last row is "invisible", i.e. none of the fields display anything (I set a picture for each row in the portal, that's why I can say there is an invisible row: the picture appears but not field values).

The relation between the 2 tables is unambiguous.

Any idea

I too have had weird portal behavior. I have a very simple portal displaying 4 fields from a related table. The portal scroll bar doesn't work and the last field in the portal repeats the same number of times as the number of portal rows displayed...bizarre. When I click outside the portal everything resets and looks normal. FM 7 is not just a beta version...it's a bad beta...

Have you defined the relationship to allow the creation of related records? This option will put an empty portal row at the end of the portal to allow the user to add new data. This row does not relate to the other file until data is entered. If you have buttons in the portal they may show and trying to go to a related record that does exist could take you to the first related record.

Check that the field that is repeating is using the same relationship as the portal.

I do have thye portal set up to allow creation of records and all the fields displayed come from the same table. The whole portal row repeats, not just one or two fields...as though I had made additional entries. And the portal elevator sticks and then malfunctions completely. I'm using Win XP Pro. I've used portals such as this for many years...this is very bizarre.

Any chance you have your portals setup with zero line thickness? I have found that there are some display issues when I do that and increasing the line thickness to something other than "0" fixes it. What you are describing sounds a lot like what I (and others) have run into.

I too have experienced problems with the last row of a portal (in my case it is a self-join). I can only assume it is a big and the Elves at FMI are busy fixing it as we speak.

FMP 7.0v2 is going to be a *great* piece of software!

*******, you were right sir RaphL ! Thanks a lot, I indeed checked the "Allow record creation" box.

Now it works fine :-)

Wow...the comments from users on this forum can save so much development time !!! Thanks...setting the portal to other than 0 line thickness makes it behave perfectly....go figure.

Can't thank you enough Neverland :-)

Thanks for the tip on portal line thickness. I was quite worried about all the bizarre portal display behavior. If my portal was "full" I couldn't add new records, and the last portal row just repeated and repeated as I clicked on the scrollbar down arrow.

In the realm of unintended consequences, when I had the line thickness set to 0, the scrollbar displayed correctly, though the portal rows were screwed up at the bottom. When I changed the thickness to hairline, the scroolbar adopted the line-thickness setting. (I wanted to change the color of the line to the background color of the portal so that it didn't show. Now this makes the scrollbar lines disappear.)

Go figure.

Many thanks for relieving me of that headache.
