Newbies Liquidgenius Posted May 12, 2004 Newbies Posted May 12, 2004 Hi folks, I am new to Filemaker Pro, coming from a MySQL background. I have Filemaker Pro Server 5 running on a OS9 mac. My goal is to be able to share Filemaker databases on the web using Web Companion and PHP. My problem is that after doing some searching on the web, as well as consulting Using FileMaker Pro 5 by Coulombre and Price, they all say I need to use this Web Companion. From my research it is a plugin. I am told... "To turn on Web sharing, choose Edit > Preferences > Application. In the dialog, choose the Plug-Ins tab. On that tab, turn on Web Companion." The problem is that when I go to Edit > Preferences, my only options are Guests, Files, Administration, Networking, Logging. I have searched all the menus and cannot find this elusive 'Web Companion' Any idea where it is or if I have to install something else? Sincerely, John Ziebro Multimedia Developer
Garry Claridge Posted May 12, 2004 Posted May 12, 2004 I'm not sure if FM Server has Web Publishing capabilities! You may have to have an FM Client running that is sharing the databases and has WebCompanion enabled. Good Luck. Garry
Newbies Liquidgenius Posted May 12, 2004 Author Newbies Posted May 12, 2004 Garry, Thanks for your quick response. I installed Filemaker Pro 5.5 (Client) on a test machine and attempted to enable WebCompanion. I get the following error message. (I have tried to change the port to 539 as I read that was registered to FileMaker, but no go, still the same error). The Web Companion cannot share files over the web because it does not have enough memory or TCP/IP networking could not be started. (-1)
Garry Claridge Posted May 12, 2004 Posted May 12, 2004 Try port 591. However, TCP/IP may not be enabled on that computer. Which OS are you using for the "test machine"? All the best. Garry
Newbies Liquidgenius Posted May 12, 2004 Author Newbies Posted May 12, 2004 The server is running FileMaker Pro Server 5 on OS 9. The client is running Filemaker Pro 5.5 on OS X Panther Server. The fact that the client's Op Sys is Panther Server is probablly causing a conflict?
Garry Claridge Posted May 12, 2004 Posted May 12, 2004 OS X Server should not be a problem, TCP/IP should always be on. You can check in the Application Preferences to see if Networking is set to "TCP/IP". Also, the default allocated Cache memory is 32MB. which should also be enough. Good Luck. Garry
