free plugins...

Featured Replies

Anyone know of any interesting free plugins out there?

I've found many of the functions of JazzUtils which is free, and it's very very useful!!

Any other free ones that people know of, for fmp 5.5/6?

Thanks

Try web page.

Its David McKee's website called Protolight. He has a number of free plugins.

I've had a look at those before - and the ones at ww.fmplugin.org but I can't find a version for OSx

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the beta version for windows though!!

...and then of course there's the example plug-in that ships 'free' with every copy of FileMaker Developer 7. wink.gif

And come to think of it, there is a free one from Hi-Voltage:

a free one from Peninsula:

the free 'PopLog' from DataMatic at:

plus the recent freeware release from 24U and NMCI:

There was at one point also a free one from Genoa called 'FreeTab', but it no longer seems to be listed for download on their web site.

And probably others that don't spring to mind at present... wink.gif

That's very useful.

It's good to see what's out there!!

Anyone know a central resource for filemaker plugins?

www.fmplugins.com seems to miss quite a few!

Thanks

That site seems to have changed in the last year...it used to be very inclusive. Now I think the pluginh developers that pay get listed.

Hi -

I downloaded the "File Toolbox" plug-in from Protolight. I copied the .fmx file into the "Extensions" folder of my FileMaker directory, and it shows up under the Edit-->Preferences-->Plugins tab. It even gives you a description of the plugin when you click on the name. However, when you try to check the box to enable it, a message pops up that says "'File Toolbox' cannot be enabled."

Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong? Is this something that won't work with FM7?

Thanks.

I don't use it myself, instead I use Troi File. David McKee doesn't support the plugins, and my guess is that you're probably right...it may not work with v7.

Steve

I agree with Steve's assessment.

The Protolight plugins first became available back around the time of FileMaker 4 - and were a great demonstration of the burgeoning capabilities of (what was then) the new FileMaker API.

One of the reasons they are/were free is because they are not supported and have not been maintained - though they seemed to work well enough right up to v6.

However there are quite a few changes in the API in v7 and most plug-in vendors had to tweak their plug-ins and issue revised versions for compatibility with v7. It woudl be surprising if the Protolight PIs still worked under 7.

Just noticed this thread. I've been using the Protolight plugins for years. When I first got FM7, one of the first things I did was try the Protolight file plugin. It worked just fine, and I've been using it with FM7 for some time now. I have also tried it with FM8, and it still works there too.

I have a couple free ones on my site:

I'm working an a new free one right now which should be neat. Basically it's a reverse lookup on a phone number. Pass in a phone number and if it is a listed number in Canada and USA then you will get back information like first name, last name, address etc.
