Boto Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 Hi, First let me start of by thanking the founders of this forum for a job well done.. Now for my question, can you guys/girls recommend some good books on FM7 pro, my main interest is making small applications for organization support systems like a HRM and a Customer Management System. I know the basics of databasing in FM like making relationships and creating layout. Perhaps something about scripting or using applescript in combination with FM. Thanks!
H.P. Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 In my opinion, you shouldn't get a book on fm6 because there are too much changes on the approach to solve a problem b/w fm 6 and fm 7. Instead of waiting for a fm7 book, I think it's better to look for artiles/samples files on fm7. It will take you less than a week to get started with fm7. By a few weeks, I don't think you will need a book on fm7 anymore.
Ano Nimus Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 I am most certain that I will need books on 7. Having read quite a few on 6 and 5, I have to say that the wizardry that some people come up with (and thankfully are willing to share with the rest of us) would never have come out of my brain, no matter how long I pondered the matter. Can't wait for the real programmers/db-experts out there to show me where to go with 7
H.P. Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 I would say on many cases, it's much easier to solve problems in FM 7 in comparison to FM 5 & 6. A book I would recommend is the updated version of the "Scriptology" book for FM 7 (not yet released). I have also read comments that Fm 6 bible isn't a really good book (from amazon.com???).
Boto Posted May 25, 2004 Author Posted May 25, 2004 Thanks for your comments on this subject... in the time it takes for the fm 7 book to arrive i have plenty of time deciding if i need one or not. Maybe the bible isnt a very good book on fm but it is on many other topics so i figured this one must be good... thanks for the replys
