cellmaker Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 I am developing an IWP solution that hides the status bar at all times. The site is basically run by buttons. However, logging out is somewhat problematic. I have a fairly short timeout for each user, but closing the browser window apparently does not perform the same function as hitting the "logout" button in the status area. What does this button specifically do, and can it be simulated in some other way? (There is no "logout" script item, and there's probably a reason for this which is opaque to me.) Thanks for any ideas.
Reed Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 If you add the exit application script step to a button on your web layout, that will have the same effect as the logout button
Vaughan Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Thanks Reed. That's cool. I'm becoming impressed with FM 7's IWP, and can understand why FMI has dumped CWP.
Susan27 Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 I have the exact same problem. I make a button with the Exit Application, it goes to the home page, but then if I click on the database, it does not allow me to login -- it just logs in as the last user. example: Employee A logs in and updates some stuff. He then clicks [Exit Application] Employee B comes along to the same central computer and click on the database, but is now logged in as Employee A (And has access to all of Employee A's stuff!) Help -- this was workinf properly last week and I have made no changes to it. Susan
qwerty` Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 Somehow the Exit Application Script doesnt work for me. I have placed the Exit Application on a layout. It seems to work fine in FileMaker Pro but on the browser, i just can't click the button. What could have gone wrong?
Vaughan Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 "...it just logs in as the last user" This is a browser issue. Some browsers (notably IE) allow the user to save the login name and password. AFAIK there is nothing that cane be done about it. Except to tell users not to save the username and password.
Susan27 Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 I had thought of that and signed in as a user without saving the password -- still didn't work. It does work if you close the browser then restart it. That would be annoying if you have 5 employees trying to sign in. Susan
Steve T. Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 Hmmm... pre-FM7 always had logout issues and the only cross-platform, cross-browser solution I knew of was to quit the browser. It was neat to hear 7 amended this, but it is disappointing to hear that it may not work in all cases. I notice most folks in this thread are Mac OS X folks, but no one has said what browsers and versions they are using. For Macs, I usually like to test IE 5.2 and Safari (lastest). Don't forget to check w/IE6 Windows! --ST
