perezda Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 Hi All, I'm a DBA but new to Filemaker... We're thinking of using FM7 to make a quick contact management app. I'll need to be able to enter people and companies, and various fields for each. The relationship from people to companies is many to many. Creating the tables/fields and relationships is easy... but I'm having trouble with the layouts, and how to create a simple interface for a many to many relationship in FM7. I guess FM doesn't seem too intuitive to me, but I'm pretty new to it. Should I be using it for this type of thing? The help files do a great explanation of simple things, but there are no complex things explained. I've looked for books, but Amazon says all the FM7 books are due out this summer. Should I consider looking at FM6 books? Any help would be appreciated. Dan
andygaunt Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 You could download the Business Tracker from FileMaker http://collection.filemaker.com/collection/search_details.jsp?serial=2206 This is a fully functional database that is great to learn the features of FM7 from.
perezda Posted June 16, 2004 Author Posted June 16, 2004 OK, so I'm looking at the Business Tracker, and obviously it's pretty complicated. When I look at the company details... and see the list of contacts at a given company... there is a little plus sign on the right side which let's you add a new contact to that company. The problem is, when I right click it and choose Specify Button... it says Do Nothing... instead of running a script. Clearly it runs a script somehow.... Anyone know where this is configured? Thanks again, Dan
perezda Posted June 16, 2004 Author Posted June 16, 2004 Nevermind... just figured it out. there are 2 objects on top of one another. the top one is not running a script. the bottom one is. if i drag the top one away in layout mode and then look at the bottom one... the script is shown. *******.
