Expanding/contracting fields (newbie question)

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if this is the right category for this question. I have a report where some fields will be a one line situation, and other entries in the same field can be a paragraph long. When I print I want the fields that happen to be one line to have the next entry directly underneath, but if I do that and the entry happens to be a paragraph, it'll cut it off. If I set the field itself to be large, then there is a bunch of white space. In Access they have an 'shrink/grow' feature that automatically makes the field the right size. Does filemaker have something like this?

By the way, if you cannot tell, i'm a newbie, so thanks for the patience.

Sliding Print is what you looking for, highlight your field in layout mode, select format from the menu and sliding print.Check "Sliding Up Based On" and probably also "reduce the size of the enclosing part". NB the effect will be visible in preview mode and the printed report.

I tried that it seems that it is not working. Any ideas? (I set the actual layout box for the section as small as possible hoping it would expand.)

Okay, I got it to work... I set the box larger! Thanks...
