Say i had 2 fields one field was TYPE and there was 2 options A or B and the second field was Spec (for instance) and for TYPE A the options were either 1 2 3 4 5 and for B there was 6 7 8 9 ok!

How do i set it so that if TYPE was A and not have the options for B (ie 6 7 8 9) appearing the second field?

You get what im saying?

What you require is a Conditional Value List, which is quite easy in 7. Create another table occurence of this table. You might call it TypeSpecs. Point at your Main Table Type field and drag-drop onto TypeSpecs Type field. It will produce an '=' which is what you want. Then create your Value List for Specs ...

Select 'Values from field' and above right, select 'Only Related Values' and select your TypeSpecs relationship. Then bottom left, click your Specs field. Attach this new Value List to your Specs field.

Now, when you select Type A from its popup and then click Specs, Specs will only display those that match Type A (or 1,2,3,4 and 5). And selecting Type B will produce Specs 6,7,8,and 9.

Since this is based upon existing field data, don't be surprised if you get a 'Value Not Found' until you populate your Spec fields and you might want to research your data to make sure none from Specs 6-9 are in Type A and vice-versa because this will skew your Specs popup.

Now it's Brands? I thought it was Type??

This will work for you if set up correctly. Check each part of my response and be sure you have it pointing to the right relationship. The Value List for Specs should be pointing to your new TypeSpecs table occurence - 'Only Related Values.'

When you enter A in Type, only Specs matching A will appear. If it still doesn't work, you may need to attach your file for us to check. wink.gif

When posting back, it helps to be specific about what you did, and how it didn't work. We'll figure it out though. I, errr, gave you the instructions from memory and quoted what to do for versions < 7 and so you may have incorrectly specified something. blush.gif

A few things to check:

1) You opened your Specs popup when testing, before you inserted a value in your Type field (Type A popup).

2) You currently have mixed data, ie, you have Type A records with Specs 6,7,8,9) and so they are incorrectly displaying in your Specs for Type A.

3) When specifying the new Specs Value List, you didn't click 'Use Values From Field', didn't select TypeSpecs TO from the 'Use Only Related Values' at the bottom (different location between versions), sorry about that. crazy.gif

Graham said ... so bare with me!

No problem, Graham. Everyone here on Forum was, at one time, exactly where you are now. Before you know it, you'll be helping others also. smirk.gif
