Ugo DI LUCA Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 Hi and welcome to the Forums. Take a look to "A Parsing Tutorial" for this and other Text extraction examples. HTH
Lee Smith Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 Hi JDAllen, and Welcome to the Forum, Ugo has pointed you to an excellent tutorial that he has provided that will illustrate some of the things that can be achieved within FileMaker when dealing with text imports. However, I would suggest a second method. I have found that it is sometimes a whole lot easier to deal with these things in a text editor *before* it is imported than to create a lot of calculations or scripts to piece meal it out after it is in FileMaker. As a fellow Mac user, my choice is TextWrangler, the text only version of BBEdit by Bare Bones Software, Inc., unless you need some of the other tools provided by BBEdit. Both products allow the use of Grep patterns searches and replacement, that can make child's play for searching and replacing data to fit the needs for import. BTW, don't be scared of by the word Grep. It isn't hard to understand and use with a little practice, and I (and others on this list) can assist you. HTH Lee
