I've been trying to print a report to a file, with the Print to file box checked in the Print dialogue, but whenever I specify the output file name, the application "hangs", and closing the Print window causes FM the exit....

I'm not at all familiar with Windows XP, so others will need to jump in here.

If this was happening to you on a Mac, I would say that it sounded more like a system problem than FileMaker. I would suggest that you check that you are you using the most recent version of 5, and print drivers.

Corrupt Printer driver. To confirm this, try printing to another printer (like an inkjet).

Delete the printer. delete the drivers for the printer. Then re-install the printer using the latest drivers from the Manufacturer. If it is a netwrok printer, the print server may be distributing the corrupt driver.
