Tina Marie Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 I want to use customized graphics for the scroll bar "for a uniform appearance" But I can't figure out how to script the "up" and "down". If my portal shows 10 records, how can I see the next or "11" etc. record and then go back up if I wanted too? I'm pulling my hair out on this one. "Customer doesn't like the look of the stock scroll bar, want's it to look like my "os-x aqua" that my layouts are designed as. If anyone can land a hand, I sure would like to end the madness. Thanks
matt d Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Well, in Filemaker you cannot specify your own scroll bar, but you can tell a button to scroll to the next, previous, first, last or by a calculation. Here is how to do it. ([color:"brown"] I assume you already created and designed your database. ) [*] Create an object, a button or image. [*] Right click on the object and select "[color:"blue"] Specify Button " [*] From the function list on the right select "[color:"blue"] Go to Portal Row ." [*] Now, on the right, change the "[color:"blue"] Specify " field to what you would like. Here you can select [color:"green"]First, [color:"green"]Next, [color:"green"]Previous, [color:"green"]Last or [color:"green"]Calculation. Let me know if this helps! -[color:"blue"]M[color:"green"]att
Tina Marie Posted July 23, 2004 Author Posted July 23, 2004 Hi Matt I have already tried doing what you are saying prior. When you are only showing 10 records going to the next portal record will not show the next record. In my test file, I have 14 records and when I have set my down arrow to go to the "Next" portal record, it just stay's on that 10th record. Somehow i need to drop the 1st portal record which would then let me see the 11th, i would think this would be a script within what the portal is searching for in the first place. I would then have an extreme problem also getting the 1st record back if I were to hit the "up" arrow. I hope this is a little more clearer.
matt d Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Ummm.. Mac or Windows. I just tried it and it works fine. So your portal row shows 10 rows right? It wont go past the 10th one?
Tina Marie Posted July 23, 2004 Author Posted July 23, 2004 Windows XP Yeah, portal is set to show only 10, and when i try to use the "button" to go to the "next" it just stays on the 10th? Don't understand it either?
matt d Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Hummm.. You must have 'show scroll bars' toggled to false. That will casue this behavior.
Tina Marie Posted July 23, 2004 Author Posted July 23, 2004 that's what it was, seems to be just fine, going to adjust my layout to get my scroll bar to be kind of next to it. might have to use the left side of the portal instead of the right side in order to get this looking right. but i can just overlay fm scroll bar with a white box, this seems to be the way to go. thanks so much.....customer will be delighted with this! i didn't have to say "no" to them! ha ha tina marie
Michael Myett Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 I'm not sure, but maybe your looking for something like this. See attached file. It's a simple implementation, but the concept can be adapted to any portal. portal_scroll.zip
Ender Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Ugo had a good example of a custom portal scroll bar (with the aqua look). I think it's somewhere in the Sample Files forum.
Ugo DI LUCA Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Follow this link for a v6 version. This was really useful for prior versions because of Portal Bouncing behaviour, which has been solved with 7. I'll take a look to see if really it can be useful now
