Newbies Brianbasso Posted August 1, 2004 Newbies Posted August 1, 2004 I'm trying to create an online form that would enable an interested student to enter their contact information as well as any interests that they have in the field of study. I've created the database and done everything the manual described, but everytime that I try to open the file on the web, I can access all of entries to the database. I need them to enter the material, have a conformation page, and then be redirected to an exit page of sorts. I'm really not familiar with the online capabilities of Filemaker Pro, so I would appreciate any advice.
Garry Claridge Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 You can do this with Custom Web Publishing (CWP) in versions prior to FM7. Some examples may exist in the "Sample Files" forum. You may wish to do a search on CWP and CDML. Good Luck. Garry
Steve T. Posted August 5, 2004 Posted August 5, 2004 Hi, Brian! As Garry alludes to, FM7 changed things quite a bit for FM web publishing. In FM5, you were limited to 10 different web users in a 12-hour period so it was not really very good for a public or many-user website. If you wanted to have more users, you had to get the Unlimited version, which costed a lot more. In FM4, there was no limit. If you stick w/FM5, I'd use Unlimited and Custom Web Publishing w/CDML. I hear FM7 is much, much better at Instant Web Publishing than FM5-6 was, but you're still stuck w/whatever is built-in. FM7 standard client also has a web publishing limit to the number of users, but it's a little different (I think 5-at-a-time). If you go FM5 and CDML, there's lots of info in the forums and sample files as Garry mentions. If you get stuck, many of us still remember our CDML even though FM has dropped it in FM7, so you can ask for help in the Lasso/CDML forum. I could probably do a simple version of what you described in about 15-20 minutes, but it will probably take you much longer since you'd be just starting out. If you have never made a web page, though, it could take even longer than that since basic web skills are recommended. FM Web publishing has been really great... you're just getting started at a strange transitional time. Hope it works out. --ST
Keith M. Davie Posted August 5, 2004 Posted August 5, 2004 Not mentioned the CDMLRdb (CDML Reference database). I have senior moments, but I believe I posted a link to that in the CDML forum several years ago. Probably still there. Get it. You'll need it. I see you are using Pro5. Good for you. Get Unlimited as Steve said, you will need it. In Pro4 you do not need unlimited, but you are limited to just one token and do not have the InlineAciton tag. Also you will need to make yourself aware of security issues. Two or three years back there was a really good thread which used to be Here
